Talking Green At Green and Sienna |
I was talking of Green about 20 years ago when I lived in New York City and my friends thought that I was losing it. Why was I worrying about these things?! Today I am glad to see that its starting to become an important political issue and, hopefully, the most important one in the near future - before it is too late. No one species is here to rule the planet forever. That we know. But if we all make some little effort then hopefully at least we will not have to die from choking in our own industrial pollution. Now look at the ripple effect of the Green. At one end of the Green product is the consumer, most likely already on some Green path with organic food, filtered water and lifestyle etc... |

On the other end is the worker in the overseas furniture factory making these products at very little wages. Even though we make our product in Malaysia in a factory in compliance with the labor laws of the country, these wages are very little. These wages not only feed him but many times his entire family, which often includes his parents and grand parents. Yes, by making a product that is more Green and Green we are reducing this workers exposure to the toxins. But I do not think that that is enough for us to start acting as if any of us have achieved a so Green status. |

My vision of Green in few words would be when this factory worker and his family have the organic to eat and sleep in too. When goods are made in factories and warehoused in warehouses that run by green energy. When the finished goods move on ships and trucks run by green energy. This is just a drop of insight into the challenges that lie ahead for all of us, small and big players. So in my view its too early to start acting soooooo Green. ![]() For now we remain Green and Sienna. |
